Athirapally, Vazhachal waterfalls

Ruling majestically over the Sholayar forest, these pristine and awe inspiring waterfalls provide a wonderful respite from the heat. From a towering height of about 80 feet, the water cascades down in an avalanche of foam and plunges into the Chalakudi River. The River is known for its diversity, as it contains 85 species of fresh water fishes out of the 152 species known from Kerala. Among these, 35 are endemic species of the Western Ghats and nine are considered to be endangered.
